Real advice for full time minsters
Hello, my name is Minette Maldonado, and I am an intern at Iglesia Cielos Abiertos / Open Heavens Church. This website and blog is an in detail story of what it's like to serve in ministry full time and why the pastors and staff faithfully serve God and people. I have interviewed my youth pastor, Pastor Heber Lopez, and he has given me his beliefs concerning the topic of serving in full time ministry.

Why did I choose to intern at a Open Heavens Church? A little back story is that I was raised in church, and my parents became pastors. Then, we ended closing the church and coming to Open Heavens. It was a different change, but I needed it. My main point for interning at church is to see how it is behind all the lights, the stage, and behind all the scenes. I believe that one day I will become a pastor, and it would be great to see and experience what it’s like in the background. I wanted to experience what it was like to be working in unseen of the church; on what is noticed by some and unnoticed by many. I believe there is a calling for my life, and I do not want to step into my purpose and calling without preparation. When you prepare, God puts you. Of course, I am not going to know every single thing because every church is different. I did not go deep into the ocean, but going ankle deep was more than I expected. |
ABOUT MEMy name is Minette Maldonado, and I am an intern at Open Heavens Church. I started attending Open Heavens in October 2014. It has been a life changing time these past couple of years, and I have definitely seen God transform my life and my heart. I started interning at Open Heavens in January 2017, and I think I've learned more in four months here than all my 13 years in school... I'm totally kidding, but I have learned a lot. I'm learning how to use Microsoft Office more in detail and more effectively, making lists and schedules. This internship is definitely helping me with my "people" skills. It's a challenge to love others all the time, but it's something I'm willing to take a risk at. Not being shy is pretty tough, too, because I tend to get shy and not want to talk to anyone.. I don't even like having phone calls with people I don't know! But interning here is helping me move passed that. My mentor is my youth pastor, Heber Lopez. He is one of the people I look up to as a Christ follower, pastor, and overall person. Maybe not as a guy because I'm a girl, but you get the gist. I look at his life as a follower of Jesus and lover of God and I am amazed everyday. Every sermon get better and better. Sometimes, I can't even imagine God using me like He uses Heber, but I know He can and He will. This mentorship has been such a blessing, and I hope to continue even after high school is over. |
