“Perhaps the best way to break out of that Christian-only huddle is to be employed in a secular position.”
Assessment: (Analyze and explain why this source is credible)
This source is credible because Thom Rainer is the author and he is the CEO of Lifeway Christian Resources.
Reflection: (How will you potentially use it?)
I will use this article in my essay because I think it’s important to see perspectives of other ministers about the topic of full time ministry. I don’t think it should be just entitled to my own opinion, which will be expressed, but it’s good to see other point of views.
What Are The Benefits of Full Time Ministry?
As a young person, I am not able to answer the question thoroughly and with such detail because I’m not in full time ministry. My mentorship is at my church and I get a little feel and taste of what it feels like to work in ministry. It’s the behind the scenes that makes the church how it is today.
In the past two months, I’ve never done so much work in my life. But it’s not work that makes me drag throughout the day. It’s work that keeps me alert and I enjoy. Some benefits of being in full time ministry are being able to see in detail what God has done, is doing, and will do in the church and in the people. It’s a satisfying feeling. In this article, Rainer gives some reasons why there should be ministers who work in the church and work in an everyday job. He says that the development of relationships with nonbelievers will be greater and better. However, that may not even be the case. Many non believers don’t want to hear anything outside of church. It’s a weird thing, but it happens. Thom Rainer is not a bad person nor is he wrong for stating why he thinks people should do both ministry and secular jobs. However, others can have a counter argument against his opinions.

Annotation:
This article talks about five things/principles of full time ministry. I’m guessing that the author is just trying to give others advice about full time ministry. Maybe making others aware of things that may happen, and what are some effects of full time ministry.
Potential Quotes:
“If you are genuinely called, you will get your butt kicked from the start. Every weak spot will become amplified. Every family issue will intensify. When it gets tough, you will second-guess your decision. You need to be convinced that you're there because of God's calling.”
Assessment:
This source is credible because the author of the article was the Executive Pastor of Rock Church.
Reflection:
I will use this article in my essay because I think it’s important for others to see the different perspectives that other people have on full time ministry.
Full Time Ministry
This short article talks about five important things to know about full time ministry. The author, James Lawrence, was the Executive Pastor of Rock Church. In this blog post, he advises others the effects of full time ministry. Lawrence states that if your calling is not to work in full time ministry, it won’t be the best experience for you. According to Lawrence, many people think that full time ministry is a piece of cake. Just going to church at whatever time and leaving at whatever time is not how it truly happens. Some days become longer than regular days. It feels like one day took 40 hours to end! I am going to use this article to interview my mentor and ask about his opinions on the five principles that James Lawrence gives.

Full Time Ministry
Tom R. Harper discusses why people or why shouldn’t people give up their secular jobs for full time ministry. At first, he asks the question, “Why do you want to enter the ministry?” In his introduction, he says that many people enter to be famous and noticed by big people in the world. Thus leading a church just to become their own church’s CEO or something of that manner. He tells his readers not to assume that they are “called to do it today and blindly jump tomorrow” (Harper). He then gives reasons that should not be the basis of foundation of someone’s decision to enter into full time ministry. I will use this article, also, to view the different points and perspectives that others have on full time ministry… again, I’m wanting to ask my mentor about his opinion on Harper’s point of view.

What I need to know:
What motivates ministers to serve full time? By knowing this, I can understand the hearts of the people. They are called to serve, and their hearts are filled with a great love for God and a great love for people.
What I know or assume:
I assume that most ministers know whether or not they are called to serve full time. I think God will make it clear whether they are or not.
My research:
This subject of full time ministry is not a common internship for HMP. It has happened, but it's not as easy as physical therapy, nursing, or law. It's something different. But , from the articles I read, full time ministry must make you want to hurry up and sleep so that you can wake up faster to go back to work. It should make you want to get out of bed.
What I discovered:
I learned that it is not good to assume that you are called to full time ministry and then take a "blind jump." Just because you think that church work is easy work, doesn't mean you should quit your job and go work at a church. Hours are not set at a church. Once you get here, you leave when that one job is complete. The work is never done in a church. In the word of James Lawrence, "it's a grind."
